I can’t lie… AirPods are actually worth it.
One thing I have not revealed yet is that I am a huge Apple nerd. Ever since I was a toddler, I have been fascinated by Apple, including the company, their products, their history, and their story. I have been excited for every new product they release, and I have been stocking up since I was four years old. When it comes to Apple products, I would consider myself an “innovator” when it comes to the type of consumer I am. However, AirPods are the first product that made me raise an eyebrow.
For starters, I was not a big fan of the design, which is usually my favorite aspect of apple products. I love the design of Apple’s earbuds, but the AirPods missed the mark for me, initially, due to the way that they stick down from the ear. When they first were released, I thought people looked so goofy wearing them. I was not alone, though. As I am sure you remember, there were plenty of AirPods memes. (See below)
However, I began seeing more and more people wear them. My classmates, friends, people over the age of forty… they started to be everywhere! I started to wonder if they were really that good. I almost felt like I was behind the curve since I did not have any… and I felt especially bad since I consider myself an Apple super fan. I asked my dad to get me some for my birthday, and the journey began.
I have now had my AirPods for a few months, and I get it. I get why they became so popular. The charging case is super sleek. They charge very fast. Their battery lasts for a good amount of listening time. The magnetic lid on the case is super fun to play with for those of us who habitually fidget with things around us. If you double-tap one of the AirPods, they will move to the next song. Lastly, if you take one of the AirPods out, whatever you are listening to pauses. I also got a free engraving on my case!
I know that was a laundry list of benefits, but they really surpassed my expectations. I did not even mention the main benefit - no wires! No more tangling of my earbud cords or one earbud failing to work due to a bad wire. Also, the physical freedom is crazy! I don’t have to have my phone in my hand or on my body to exercise, do chores, change clothes, or play with my dog!
Although many tech companies have their own version of wireless earbuds, I had to stay loyal and go with Apple. I can’t say Apple’s are better, but I can only assume. Usually, I am not the biggest fan of conforming to society’s “basic” trends, but this time it was worth it. It is very interesting to see how a brand like Apple can make something so popular. Imagine if a different company produces the same wireless earbuds first. Due to how silly some people perceived them initially, I do not think they would have caught on like Apple’s did. But hey, that’s the power of having an incredible brand and strong hold on consumers.
